Tomorrow, I will set out by Via Rail to eat my way across Canada.
It’s a feasting challenge of monumental proportions - more than 5,000 kilometres by train, more than a 1,000 kilometers by car to reach restaurants in various far-flung corners of Canada and meals at top restaurants in nine provinces, along with first-class rations aboard Via’s Canadian from Vancouver to Toronto and The Ocean from Montreal to Halifax.
Yes, Canada is a massive country with tremendous food regions, but I have a pretty big appetite. Plus, I have been practicing for the challenge of Eating Canada by researching my book, Apples to Oysters: A Food Lover’s Tour of Canadian Farms, in which I packed eating research trips to farms in 10 provinces plus the Yukon.
